How We Chose The Breeds

At Choose Joy Farm, every animal we raise is carefully chosen for its unique contribution to a peaceful, productive, and joy-filled farm life. Our Kune Kune pigs are a perfect fit for our small-scale, pasture-based model. Unlike traditional pig breeds, Kune Kunes are gentle, friendly, and thrive on grass — making them ideal for sustainable, low-maintenance pork production and companion animal programs. Their calm temperament and small stature make them a joy to work with, especially for families or first-time pig owners.
We love the vibrant eggs and friendly personalities of our Easter Egger chickens, who lay beautiful shades of blue and green eggs that our customers adore. Their hardy nature, sweet disposition, and reliable laying make them an essential part of our colorful flock. Alongside them, our Silkie chickens bring a touch of magic to the coop. These gentle, fluffy birds are natural brooders and incredibly docile, making them perfect for children, educational programs, or simply for adding a bit of whimsy to the farmyard.
When it comes to rabbits, we raise both Red New Zealand and Giant Angora breeds for very specific reasons. Red New Zealands are known for their calm nature, rapid growth, and dual-purpose value — they’re excellent for homesteaders looking for a sustainable meat breed. Our Giant Angora rabbits, on the other hand, are prized for their luxurious wool. Their soft, dense coats provide renewable fiber perfect for hand-spinning and crafting, aligning beautifully with our farm’s commitment to sustainable, artisan products.

The Dairy Goat Herd

At Choose Joy Farm, we've been proudly raising ADGA-registered Lamancha Dairy Goats, AGS Nigerian Dwarf Goats, and MDGA-registered Miniature Lamanchas for years. Each breed brings something special to the farm, and over time, we’ve come to deeply appreciate their unique personalities, capabilities, and charm.
🐐 Lamancha Dairy Goats (ADGA)Recognized by their signature “gopher” or “elf” ears, Lamanchas are a true American breed known for their calm temperament, strong milk production, and loving nature. They’re incredibly personable — often described as “dog-like” — and have quickly become the heart of our dairy operation. Their milk is rich, high in butterfat, and excellent for cheese, soap, and caramel (cajeta) making.
🐐 Nigerian Dwarf Goats (AGS)Small in size but big in personality! Nigerian Dwarfs are a joy to have on the farm. These miniature dairy goats produce impressively rich milk with very high butterfat content, making it perfect for soaps and luxurious lotions. Their vibrant colors, blue eyes, and playful spirits make them a favorite with families and hobby farms alike.
🐐 Miniature Lamanchas (MDGA)Mini Lamanchas are the best of both worlds — a cross between a Nigerian Dwarf and a Lamancha, combining the high butterfat of the Nigerian with the gentle temperament and sturdy build of the Lamancha. These goats are registered through the MDGA and are growing in popularity for small farms and homesteads looking for productive, friendly, and manageable dairy goats.
