How Choose Joy Farm Came to Be
Welcome to Choose Joy Farm
Hello! I’m Mollie Alaire, a proud Williamsburg, VA native, and the heart behind Choose Joy Farm. I’ve been blessed to call this area home for my entire life. My farming journey began in 2008 when I was gifted four laying hens and a wonderfully robust Saanen doe — a goat with more personality than I ever thought possible. Little did I know, that day would change everything for me. I instantly fell in love with farming and raising livestock.
Over the years, Choose Joy Farm has grown, and so have I. The journey hasn’t always been easy. I’ve faced my share of personal struggles — a divorce, the heartbreaking loss of my brother and other family members, and a year-long layoff from work. Despite these challenges, farming has always been my constant. I never gave up on the lifestyle that has brought me so much joy, peace, and fulfillment. It’s the rhythm of farm life, the animals, and the earth that kept me grounded through it all.
Through dedication, passion, and a lot of learning along the way, I’ve built up a diverse herd and flock that includes my beloved Lamancha Dairy goats, Nigerian Dwarf goats, Giant Angora rabbits, Red New Zealand rabbits, Kune Kune pigs, and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians. I also raise Easter Egger, Silkie, and Bantam Cochin chickens — each breed with its own charm and personality.
Most importantly, I’ve found my true love and partner, Justin, who shares my deep affection for animals and the farm life we’ve created together.
We’ve come a long way since those first four hens, and I’m so proud of the farm we’ve built. With experience since 2008, Choose Joy Farm is more than just a place — it’s a labor of love, a sanctuary, and a testament to the joy and fulfillment that comes with raising animals and living close to the land. Thank you for visiting, and I hope you find as much joy here as we do every day.
